Big Milestone for The Surfer Kids

We are proud to announce that one of our groms, Inam Falteni, has been selected as a non-travelling reserve for the South African Junior Team competing at this year's ISA World Junior Championships in El Salvador.

Inam has been part of The Surfer Kids programme for the past four years and has consistently demonstrated a passion for surfing, the ocean, and personal growth. His selection is a reflection of his hard work, dedication, and commitment to the sport.

As part of the national team setup, Inam will attend two high-performance training camps in Ballito and East London during July and August. This will provide him with the opportunity to train alongside some of South Africa's top junior surfers and coaches.

Inam has been a positive role model for the younger surfers in our programme, inspiring them to work hard and pursue their goals. We are incredibly proud of his achievement and wish him all the best for the camps and the exciting opportunities ahead.

Jeffreys Bay Training Camp

The Surfer Kids will once again be heading to Jeffreys Bay this July for a week-long training camp.

Last year, our surfers had an incredible experience watching some of the world's best surfers compete at the iconic Supertubes during the WSL J-Bay Open. While the event will not take place this year, we are excited to return to one of South Africa's premier surfing destinations.

This year, we will be taking a smaller group of seven surfers to participate in an intensive training camp as they prepare for the South African Junior Championships, which will be held in Jeffreys Bay later this year.

Training at the competition venue is a valuable opportunity for our young surfers. It allows them to become familiar with the waves, conditions, and environment while building confidence ahead of the championships. The group is already frothing with excitement and looking forward to a week of surfing, learning, and development.

We are confident that this camp will play an important role in their preparation and help them continue progressing both in and out of the water.

Challenges at Diaz Beach

Last month, the Eden District experienced a severe storm that caused significant damage along our coastline. Large sections of the dunes were washed away, creating safety risks for beachgoers and nearby residents.

For The Surfer Kids, this has been a major setback. Diaz Beach has been our home for the past 10 years, providing a safe and accessible space where hundreds of young people have been introduced to surfing and the ocean. Following the storm, the local municipality closed the beach due to safety concerns, which has greatly impacted our ability to run the programme as normal.

As a result, we have missed numerous surf sessions with our younger surfers. In the meantime, we have adapted by using Santos Beach, located just 10 minutes away, whenever conditions allow. While we are grateful to still be able to get our kids in the water, we look forward to the day when we can return to Diaz Beach and resume our activities there.

Despite the challenges, our commitment to the children we serve remains unchanged. We are hopeful that repairs and rehabilitation efforts will allow safe access to the beach again soon, so that our surfers can continue doing what they love most.
