Victoria Bay Hosts the Eden SA Junior Trials
Over the past two weeks, The Surfer Kids Shark Team competed in the Eden Surf Riders SA Junior Championship Trials at Victoria Bay. We were blessed with excellent waves during the first trial and fair, contestable conditions for the second, providing the perfect stage for the region's top junior surfers to showcase their talent.

Our Sharks Team put on an impressive performance, ripping the famous right-hand point break at Victoria Bay. The boys were well prepared, confident, and frothing to compete against the best junior surfers in the Eden district. Their commitment and hard work in training were evident throughout the competition.
Surfers selected from these trials will go on to represent the Eden District at the South African Junior Championships this October at Lower Point, Jeffreys Bay. There, they will compete against the country's best junior surfers as they battle for national titles and the opportunity to be crowned South African Junior Champions.

Sharks Squad Takes on Jeffreys Bay
In July, The Surfer Kids’ Sharks squad packed their boards and hit the road for Jeffreys Bay, one of the most iconic surf destinations in the world. From 12–19 July, the team called J-Bay home for a full week of focused, high-intensity training and valuable time in the water.

Accommodation was just a five-minute walk from Lower Point, giving the squad the perfect setup to make the most of every day. With one of J-Bay’s best waves right on their doorstep, the surfers could be in the water at first light and return for another session later in the day. No long drives and no wasted time — just plenty of surfing, training, and learning.
Head Surf Coach Andries Matthysen led the training camp, putting the squad through their paces and helping each surfer develop their technique, wave knowledge, confidence, and competitive surfing. Lower Point is no beginner wave. Its long, fast right-handers demand commitment, timing, positioning, and technical precision. These are exactly the kinds of conditions that challenge young surfers, expose areas that need improvement, and accelerate their development.

For our young athletes from Mossel Bay, spending a full week learning to read and surf the waves of Jeffreys Bay was an invaluable experience. The amount of time spent in quality waves allowed them to work on their surfing in conditions that cannot always be replicated during regular training sessions back home.
More importantly, the camp was about more than simply improving their surfing. It was an opportunity for the Sharks to spend a week together as a team — building discipline, independence, confidence, and stronger relationships both in and out of the water.
