With the month of April behind us, there is so much to be stoked about. It was an action-packed month filled with great surf, skating, competition and memories that will stay with us for years to come. From the second event of the TSK Surf Series to the Annual Sedgefield Skate Jam where our skaters represented us proudly, there is plenty to celebrate. Let’s dive in.
TSK Surf Series 2
On the 25th of April, The Surfer Kids NPO hosted the second TSK Surf Series event of the year, and the surfers were absolutely ripping at Outer Pool Point.
The event brought together surfers from across the Eden District, creating an incredible atmosphere both in and out of the water. We were especially excited to see strong participation in the Open Division, with parents and older local surfers leading by example and showing the younger generation that they still have plenty of fire in them.

It was also great to see surfers who were part of the Eden Grommet Games team joining the competition and testing themselves against more experienced surfers. Events like these are an important part of growth, pushing young athletes out of their comfort zones and helping them gain valuable competition experience. We’re confident many of them will be back for the next event even more motivated.
As always, all prizes were paid out in Bitcoin Sats as part of our ongoing mission to promote Bitcoin education and adoption within our community. Most importantly, it has been amazing to watch the progress of our young surfers, with several TSK riders making it all the way to the finals.

Race2Hermanus – The Orange Rocket
The action didn’t stop there. On the 3rd of May, our lifesaving instructor Akhona Mabutho — better known as “The Orange Rocket” — competed in the Race2Hermanus Triathlon, his third triathlon event of the year.
Akhona finished an impressive 21st overall out of 301 athletes, placing 8th overall in the swim leg before pushing through the cycling and running stages with determination and grit. His consistency, discipline, and work ethic continue to inspire both our team and the kids in our programme.
We are incredibly proud of Akhona and the way he represents The Surfer Kids organisation wherever he goes. He remains a powerful role model to the next generation, and we wish him all the best for the events still to come this year.

TSK Represented at the Sedgefield Skate Jam
On the 26th of April, a few of our kids headed through to the Annual Sedgefield Skate Jam — a fun-filled community event celebrating skateboarding culture in the Garden Route. The jam was another unforgettable day of skating, community, and pure stoke. With perfect weather, a bigger road closure, extra ramps added to the setup, and more skaters and spectators than ever before, the event keeps growing year after year.

Skaters travelled from across the Garden Route, throwing down impressive tricks and creating an electric atmosphere filled with music, energy, and old-school fun. From young kids finding confidence on their boards to experienced skaters pushing the limits, the day was all about bringing people together through skateboarding and creating a safe, welcoming space for everyone to enjoy the culture. We were proud to see our TSK kids out there representing with big smiles, good energy, and plenty of courage.
Looking Ahead
As we head deeper into the year, we are filled with gratitude for our community, supporters, volunteers, parents, and all the young athletes who continue to show up with passion and determination. April reminded us exactly why we do what we do — creating opportunities, building confidence, and giving young people positive spaces to grow through surf, skate, sport, and community.
We can’t wait for what’s next.
