The Surfer Kids Surf Series held its fourth competition last weekend, drawing over 40 competitors from across the Garden Route to Mossel-Bay. Despite intermittent rain, the event unfolded under lively conditions with clean, fun waves and an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and community spirit.
Spectators and competitors alike were treated to a high standard of surfing, reflecting the growing depth of talent in the Eden District. The event once again underscored the positive impact of grassroots surf development, as young surfers continue to push one another to new levels of performance.

Among the standout performers was Mayah Douglas, who delivered an exceptional showing by winning both the U14 and Open Divisions. Douglas was also named Surfer of the Contest, earning a custom-made surfboard from Sean Newton Designs, fully paid for in Sats (Bitcoin). Newton, a legendary local shaper and surfer, is well-known for his craftsmanship and as one of the few surfboard makers in the region to accept Bitcoin as payment.
Douglas’ dominance didn’t end there—he also claimed an additional 60,000 sats for recording the highest single-wave score of the contest, an outstanding 9.5-point ride that drew cheers from the beach.

Another impressive performance came from Inam Falteni of The SurferKids Non-Profit, who secured victory in the Boys U16 Division. Falteni’s powerful backhand attack and consistent execution throughout the heats highlighted his growing confidence and competitive edge.
Organisers praised the event for its strong turnout and sense of camaraderie, emphasising how these competitions help unite the Eden District surfing community while fostering healthy competition among the region’s youth.
With momentum building, The SurferKids are already planning ahead for the next stop of the series in February 2026, set once again for Mossel Bay. Expectations are high that it will be bigger and better than ever, continuing to showcase the region’s bright surfing future. We cant wait to see you all there.
